On October 18, as a candidate for school board, I had the privilege of interacting with the citizens of the Southern District. The Tazewell Chamber of Commerce was responsible for the public forum concerning our county educational system. The chamber did an excellent job of bringing together a high school student, a parent, a teacher, and representatives from the three local newspapers, and our local TV station to form an engaging panel. Each member of the panel took time out of their busy schedules to, not only attend the event, but also to research and ask questions that reflected the concerns of the community.
I would like to extend sincere thanks to Audrea Matney, Rhonda Fuller, and Susan Whittaker for representing all of the students, parents, and teachers of the Southern District so comprehensively. I would also like to thank Bluefield Daily Telegraph, The Free Press, Clinch Valley News, and WVVA, for sending such insightful representatives. Thanks to Main Street Café which provided delicious refreshments (especially the cookies) and Southwest Virginia Community College for taping the event. However, none of this would have been possible without the coordination of the Tazewell Chamber of Commerce and the support of the citizens of the Southern District. Thank you for Job Well Done!

Athens, W.Va. - Today we have the power of the Internet to stay connected and make purchases, but yesterday, powerful trains pulled by steam engines delivered goods and kept people and communities in touch with each other. Photographer O.
