I am so glad to find this section! I love the traditional foods that this area is known for like those Cabbage Rolls. Anybody remember the spaghetti dinners St. Therese here in town used to serve with Johnny Shelly's famous sauce? There's a recipe I want.

I also want some home made cottage cheese. Anybody remember making this from fresh milk? Now it's been decades since my mother was able to get milk and fix it for me and now that I have moved back, I see Virginia has taken it upon their legislative shoulders to ban the sale of raw milk.

So short of buying a milk cow of my own, which I am about ready to, does anybody know of any artisan cheese makers or maybe somebody that could give me some fresh milk?

A few simple pleasures in life that I only enjoyed here at home included sour green apples in June and homemade cottage cheese.

Can anybody share any advice?

I will ask in church on Sunday if anyone has John's recipe for his famous spaghetti sauce.

Mickie Asbury, works at social services, you may know her, makes a mean Italian sauce and meatballs. She would probably be glad to give you her recipe. It may be John's.

Mine is good and my family loves it.

Please do ask, and if Mickey Louise will share her recipie that would be marvelous. It would have to be pretty similar to Johnny's since they all were family.

Will you put yours on here in the mean time?

I really am interested in discussing some of the dishes the area is known for. Be it from our granny's table, churches or restaurants (now gone I am sure) I would love to hear what some others' recollections are. Matter of fact, I could talk food all day! :D
